Ontario Home Renovation Rebates: Your Guide to the Home Renovation Savings Program


Ontario home renovation rebates:  Canadian banknotes representing government incentives for energy-saving upgrades like heat pumps, solar panels, and insulation.

If you're confused by the ever-changing landscape of home energy incentives ā€“ youā€™re not alone!Ā  The Ontario government has launched another initiative, the Home Renovations Savings Program. This new program offers rebates on a wide range of home upgrades, making it more affordable to create a comfortable, sustainable home.


Home Renovations Savings Program: What You Need to KnowĀ 


When does it launch?Ā January 28th, 2025.Ā Ā Ā 

Who can apply?Ā Ontario homeowners.Ā 

What's included? Good news, solar panels are included! Upgrades are split into two categories, the first list you have to do at least two upgrades and get an Energuide Audit to be eligible for the rebate. The second, are stand-alone upgrades, nothing else and no Audit required to get the rebate. That's great news for homeowners who only want a Heat Pump!


Ontario Home Renovation Savings Program: Bundle 2 Upgrades -  A list of eligible home upgrades for bundled rebates, including insulation, windows and doors, air sealing, and heat pump water heaters.

Bundle Upgrades:Ā Ā 

Choose two upgrades from this list, and complete an Energuide Audit to be eligible for the rebate.

  • Insulation: This includes attic, basement, and exterior walls to receiveĀ up to $8,900Ā 

  • Windows and doors: Install energy-efficient windows and doors and receive $100 per door and windowĀ 

  • Air sealing: Reduce those drafts and receive up to $250Ā Ā Ā 

  • Heat Pump Water Heater: Install a qualified water heater and get $500 backĀ 





Stand-aloneĀ Upgrades:Ā Ā 

  • Cold Climate Air Source Heat Pump: Upgrade your heating and get upĀ to $7,500 depending on the size of heat pump installedĀ 

  • GroundĀ Source Heat Pump:Ā Ā If you've got the space, receive upĀ to $12,000Ā 

  • Smart Thermostat:Ā Control your home temperature and receive $75 backĀ Ā Ā 

  • Solar panels and battery storage:Ā up to $10,000Ā 




How will it work?Ā

Other Programs and Rebates

Ontario government logo:  Symbolizing the provincial funding for the Home Efficiency Plus (HER+) Program, offering rebates for energy-efficient home upgrades.

Enbridge HER+: up to $5,000 in rebates: It is expected that the new program will replace the Home Efficiency Rebate Plus program.

Government of Canada logo:  Representing federal support for the Canada Greener Homes Loan program, which provides interest-free financing for energy-efficient home upgrades.

Canada Greener Homes Loan:Ā $40,000 at 0% interest for energy efficiency upgrades: In the Fall Economic Statement, the government announced it will increase funding for interest-free loans through this program.Ā 

Government of Canada logo:  Highlighting the Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program, which provides no-cost energy-efficient retrofits for eligible homeowners and renters, starting mid-2025.

Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program:Ā No cost retrofits for low-to median-income homeowners and renters announced in 2024. The government is relying on provincial partners to deliver the programs starting mid-2025.Ā 

City of Toronto logo:  Showcasing the City of Toronto's HELP program, offering low-interest loans and rebates to help homeowners make energy-efficient upgrades.

City of Toronto HELP:Ā up to $125,000 loan at low interest rates plus rebates for heat pumps, solar and $10k for Deep Energy Retrofits.Ā  This program was previously stackable on other programs ā€“ we hope this will continue.Ā 

City of Ottawa logo:  Representing the Better Homes Ottawa Loan Program (BHOLP), which offers financial assistance to homeowners for energy-efficient upgrades, including low- and no-interest loans and rebates for heat pumps.

City of Ottawa BHOLP: Ā Better Homes Ottawa Loan program offering up to $125,000 with low and no interest depending on income with rebates for heat pumps. This program was previously stackable with provincial programs.
